Updated: Nov 8, 2022

Instagram loves giving a little extra boost to reels using trending audio

Not only is using trending audio on reels a great way to add some personality to your videos, but it can also help get your content in front of users.

Using trending audio in your Reels matters because Instagram's algorithm prioritizes Reels that encourage other creators to use audio in their Reels. When you use trending audio, it helps capture more people's attention and improve engagement.

Here are a few tips to help you find what's trending:

1) Check Out The Explore Page On Instagram

You'll find a collection of the most popular Reels from the past week. Scroll through and see which audio catches your eye and matches the vibe of your next reel. Don't forget to look at the audio section and see if you can spot the "trending" arrow next to the song's name.

2) Look At What's Popular On Other Social Media Platforms

What songs are people using on TikTok? What audio clips are going viral on Twitter? Chances are, if something is popular on another platform, it will also be popular on Instagram.

3) Pay Attention To Your Favorite Celebrities And Influencers

If they're using a particular song or audio clip on their reels, it's probably because it's trending. Most likely, they or their team have already done the research, so It is always worth checking out their content beforehand.

4) Follow Instagram's @Creators Page

Every Friday, Instagram's @Creators account releases Trend Reports. The report includes a summary of the past week's trending content on Instagram, such as filters, sounds, music, hashtags, and challenges. However, waiting for the Trend Reports can put you at a disadvantage because you'll be a step behind everyone else, but it's a great alternative if you don't feel like scrolling through Reels or trying any of the options above.

5) Find Trending Sounds On The Rise

Aim for trending audio with less than 10k uses. Typically, Trending audios tend to die around 50-200k uses. The ideal sweet spot is trending audio with 3-5k uses. The lower the number of uses, the younger the trend is. The greater the number of uses, the older the trend is.

Most importantly, be authentic. Pick audio that makes sense for your content, brand, and audience.
